Hey, ST and all:
DeNanda, here….I noticed that the “OPEN” sign was on the door, so I’ve let myself in, steeped a bag of “house special blend” chamomile tea, and chosen a lemon-poppy seed, and a Thai basil-mint-honey muffin from the display on the counter. Don’t worry, I tucked some folding-green in the cash register, too. I’m ensconced at my favorite corner table, watching the world go by….And, a Pink Floyd tune just started to play on the jukebox….Weird.
Where is everybody?
I’ll just hang out here for a bit, ‘k? Chao for now!
Off to early-evening Mass; taking yunz with me. Back after-after: Chao for now!

Howdy, JaC! Good to see you, also! Is it a beautiful Fall weekend for you? What’s on your mind, friend?

This year is far and away the most glorious fall I have ever seen, and living in New England, I have seen many incredibly falls, but this one is beyond incredible. Today was glorious 🙂

So glad to hear it! The canopy is a bit less dense here, but not quite all down. There’re a couple of blaze-orange maples across the street that look like a hunter’s vest/jacket – and a “burning bush” on the side of my porch. Not to mention leaves in my back yard for young’uns to jump into – before the mulching mower gets to them, that is…..

Hi, Hypatia! I’m back from Mass and dinner….Well-fed in all kinds of ways. -smile- What’s on your mind and heart, dear lady? Also: What would you like to see from the “Chaps” this time around? As, well, I’m intrigued: What took you to Poland for a wedding? How glorious!

It was a beautiful fall day here on our Plateau. The canopy is pretty much down, but when you go into the woods, the very young trees are just beginning to turn. My mare stumbled and went down, and my leg was pinned under her—and my sweatshirt was hooked on the pommel! She is one GOOD GIRL, didn’t panic like horses often do when they’re down. So I extricated myself, and no harm to either of us.
Why Poland? A family we’re friends with had housed two Polish exchange students years ago. When the Polish girls visited the US, we had several times included them in our parties. (We entertain a lot. ) One of the girls was the bride, so she invited us to the wedding.
I might’ve said: thanks but no thanks—I don’t like weddings—or rather, I like the ceremony, ceremonies are always interesting, but usually not the reception—but this was a lifelong dream of my husband’s, to attend a Polish wedding in Poland! He planned a wonderful trip around the wedding date. if I had your email, I would send you my blog about the trip—or I’d post it here, But I have no clue how to do that… But any way, loved the place, made an effort to get up on their history. We saw Warsaw and Krakow , two great cities! Lotsa culture, Chopin every night if you wanted….You’da loved Jasna Gora, where Poland’s most sacred icon is housed! And Tarnow, where my husband’s father’s family is from. Poland is in my soul now.

Hypatia, that is wondrous! First, that you are open to observing what’s around you – and describing it for me/us…I never would have thought of saplings/young trees being part of Fall beauty – I’m usually primed for Spring, in that way, thank you. Next: You and your dear equine girl must trust each other completely – what joy that must be. Last, but most definitely not least, Poland: Yes! John Paul the Great’s Warsaw, Krakow and Jasna Gora – heaven on earth. The food, the music – and in the company of your husband and dear friends – a true blessing! I appreciate your sharing all this very much…Here’s my email: dan54gle@gmail.com

I started the process of changing houses on Friday morn, and am still at it. My cable should get switched on Monday A.M. local (by Sunday midnight for ya’ll) and then things should slowly return to normal.
So far so good in my new house. It has the potential to become ‘home,’ something the house I rented for the last two years never could.
I will probably drop an OP about this sometime when I get settled in. Some my experiences at the last house were truly frightening.

Btw, I spent some reading time prospecting with Mr. Clemens and his partners today. Their naïveté was harrowingly hilarious….Wondering how “Roughing It” might compare with Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Silverado Squatters” – a similar memoir?

Have finished rereading both “Roughing It” and “Silverado Squatters” again….Both are humorously-descriptive; and both reflect the cultural background and personalities of their authors. Twain is broadly funny and sardonic about the West. Stevenson is awed by the beauty/expansiveness, but quietly-bemused/bewildered by the folks he encounters with his American wife, and 12-year-old stepson. Both come highly recommended!
