Your Lyon Eyes

This morning we all walked the plank off of our ship, boarded a bus  headed for Vienne, which is a suburb of Lyon.  It has a huge Roman temple ( yes Roman not Romanesque!) in the center of town.
Then on to Lyon, which is France’s second largest city.  We went for lunch to a restaurant called Comptoir Chabert, and were served a  very strange main course which the waitress called soufflé, but none of us could figure out what was in it.  The salade Lyonnaise was very good though.  The distinguishing feature of salade Lyonnaise is a poached egg.
Then on to our hotel, where we have a beautiful suite, commensurate with the suite we had on our boat.  We took a very long walk along the river, and formed a good impression of  Lyon!  It’s beautiful,  and many people were about, jogging, biking, walking dogs…oh and NO piled-up trash! “Pas de grève ici!” (No strike here) said our cabdriver—although last night I heard Lyon was affected.  Maybe Paris  won’t be so bad, either.

  1. I can’t say Vienne impressed every much, but since I got home I’ve learned that it’s believed to be where Pontius Pilate retired when he’d had enuf of being a Roman civil servant.
Cue “the Master and Margarita”. Wish I’d known when we were there!
Yeah. Pictures? I don’t do. I don’t like to have to carry my IPad along. Sorry. But to me, a word is worth a thousand pictures….
