Brainwashing

Until a few weeks ago, I used to think of brainwashing as something that only happened to other people. I cannot believe how stupid and arrogant I was to think that it couldn’t happen to me-to not even consider the possibility that maybe it had, but I find comfort in knowing that there are many others like me.

If you are a liberal reading this, and you are shaking your head at me, please consider the fact that an amazing number of people in the orbit of Bill and Hillary Clinton have “committed suicide.” If you support them or supported them, then you either were or are brainwashed. It seems that we all have been brain washed,, to one extent or another, in one way or another.

This post is about my own personal experience of being brainwashed, specifically, when it comes to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. A conflict which I paid almost zero attention to until a few days ago. The main reason I paid zero attention was because I trusted President Trump and Fox News. I know, embarrassing, but if you trust Hillary Clinton and CNN, you are in no position to judge me.

Until very recently, many Americans on both the right and the left actually trusted our so called “leaders.” The left could always see where the right was being brainwashed, and the those of us on the right could be relied on to see when liberals were brainwashed, but the idea that maybe we were all brainwashed in different ways was inconceivable to many of us.

How could this happen? Several months ago, Trump announced plans for the U.S. to take over the Gaza strip. He said that he wanted to build Trump hotels in Gaza, and I just nodded. I didn’t even stop to think about it. I knew next to nothing about what was happening in Gaza, because Fox News never reported on it and Gaza never showed up in whatever algorithms I was part of, so when Trump stated that he wanted America to take over the Gaza strip, I just nodded and went along with it. How could I have done that?

How could I have been so blind? As always, I take comfort in knowing that I not the only one, and conservatives are not the only ones. Why was there no outcry on the right when Trump said that? Good question, but an even better question is, why was there no outcry on most of the left when Trump said that? That statement was a major chink in Trump’s armor. The democrats could have milked that statement for everything it was worth. They could have started a serious conversation about what exactly it would mean for America to take over Gaza, but the vast majority of them didn’t. From what I remember, most on the left didn’t even blink when Trump said that. From what I can tell, most on the left weren’t paying much attention to Gaza, either.

How could this happen? Future generations will look back on most of us in horror. They will assume, understandably, that because we allowed monstrous things to be done in our name, that we must have been monsters.

All I can say is, you had to be there. From what I can tell, most Americans on all political sides are actually wonderful people. Maybe too wonderful. They are good and decent people, but they are naive beyond comprehension, or at least they (we) were, until a few weeks ago. In our defense, I would say this: we were being ruled by an evil that had to be seen to be believed. Until a few weeks ago, we never saw it, and because we had never seen it, we didn’t believe in it. There were perhaps a few people here and there who saw it, but they were dismissed as “conspiracy theorists.” Most of us thought they were paranoid, or at least exaggerating, but now that it is playing out on national television, there is no denying it anymore. The world has turned upside down. America will never ever be the same. The world will never be the same, and those who came after us will never understand how we could have been so gullible.

I can only say this: if you are looking back on this from the future, you can see it all playing out on film, but until very recently, Americans couldn’t. You may look down on us for being stupid and gullible, but those few-those very few-who didn’t need it to all play out on television were mostly dismissed as being horribly paranoid. They tried to tell us. We thought they were crazy, because we could not conceive of the level of evil that they were describing.

We all knew that the leaders on the other side were evil, but we actually believed that most of our own leaders were good, or at least acceptable. That is why most of Trump’s supporters paid no attention to Gaza. That is why most liberals are in total denial about the Clintons and the Bidens. Hunter is a pedophile. We all know that, but he walks free, not just because of a pardon, but because a lot of liberals are in total denial.

As i write this, it is July 23, 2025. Congress is going on vacation to avoid addressing the Epstein scandal. I have no idea what the future holds. All I know, and this is going to sound so trite, but it’s all I know-is that Jesus is the Way, The Truth, and the Light. Until very recently, I was guilty of looking the other way on Gaza. Many liberals look the other way on things like abortion. No one is innocent. Most of us can make a fair case that we were brainwashed, but we need to snap out of it. It seems that a lot of us have.

Where do we go from here? No one knows, but whatever happens, please Lord, help us to go forward with forgiveness and grace and humility. Lord have mercy on us, and may we have mercy on each other.
