of the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok, Thailand
** If your question is answered below, we will not provide a personalized response**
Please read below for information related to COVID-19 inquiries:
- If you are requesting a letter from the U.S. Embassy to provide to Thai Immigration for a visa extension:
- Please send an email to acsbkk@state.gov with 1. your full name as listed in your passport, 2. your date of birth, and 3. your passport number.
- Once we have this information, please allow up to 72 hours to process this letter. We will make every effort to return this letter as soon as possible.
- Should I/my family leave Thailand?
- On March 19, the U.S. Department of State issued a Worldwide Level 4 Health Advisory recommending U.S. citizens avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19. We advise you arrange for immediate return to the United States. Travelers should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice. U.S. citizens are urged to work with their airlines to make travel arrangements while flights are still available. If you do not return to the United States, you should be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.
- You can stay up to date with the latest alerts by enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) at step.state.gov and monitoring the U.S. Embassy website. We will post alerts to the website as soon as they become available.
- Will I be allowed into the United States?
- U.S. citizens are allowed entry into the United States. The recent presidential proclamations restricting entry to the United States for certain foreign nationals do not apply to U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents. U.S. passengers that have been in certain countries, not including Thailand, must travel through select airports where the U.S. Government has implemented enhanced screening procedures. See the DHS website for further details.
- Can I enter Thailand?
- Please review our COVID-19 page on the U.S. Embassy Bangkok’s Website for the most up to date information about entering Thailand.
- CRBA and notarial appointment cancellations
- U.S. Embassy Bangkok’s American Citizen Services (ACS) unit is canceling all notarial services and Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) appointments until further notice. We will resume routine ACS services as soon as possible but are unable to provide a specific date at this time.
- If you have written to this email address with a specific emergency, we will be in touch with you directly. Otherwise, please know that we will attend to routine business as soon as possible after the health crisis.
- Inquiries related to flight cancelations
- Unfortunately, the U.S. Embassy is unable to assist in booking or changing airline tickets. We suggest that you reach out to your airline and utilize commercial websites to book or change your tickets while flights are still available. Travelers should be prepared for travel restrictions to be put into effect with little or no advance notice. If you do not return to the United States, you should be prepared to remain abroad for an indefinite period.

I got that. You’ve gone native. You haven’t told us much about the ChinaVirus hysteria in Thailand (unless I missed a post). But, given the way it’s going here in the (former) Land of the Free, it loox like you made a good choice.

I know, but the idea of being stuck “indefinitely” in a foreign land freaked me out when I first read it. It still kind of freaks me out, but if Simon is cool with it, so am I. 🙂

Let us know if they grant your request. 🤞(At least, I THINK this is an auto response to the letter you sent….)

The US Embassy in BKK has e-mailed the letter to me the Thai immigration office wants to see tomorrow. Everything is looking positive so far. Of course these are the same corrupt public servants who screwed me out of ~$800.00USD in January over a technicality of their own creation.
