Les Miserables

Everyone should see the movie “Les Miserables”, especially Christians: I am racking my mind trying to think of any work of art that communicates Christ’s message as perfectly as this movie does, and I can’t. Plus, it might save your life 🙂 It saved my life when my cousin Tara was murdered in 9/11. I spent the months afterward living with a very kind friend who patiently sat with me while I watched Les Miserables over and over and over again, again and again and again. I never got sick of it, and nearly 20 years later, am still not sick of it, although at this point I only watch it a couple of times a year.

The version I originally watched was a film of the 10th anniversary performance: this clip is from the movie. I realize that a lot of people hate musicals, but if you can, force yourself to watch this one at least once. It’s worth it. This clip is from the beginning of the movie-not the very beginning, but close enough to the beginning that it doesn’t really spoil anything:

    1. I have never read the book, because I cannot imagine any scenario in which the book would be better than the movie, but I should read it anyway.

      1. The movie elaborates on the Broadway musical – from which my nieces sang chapter and verse continuously. Until “Wolfie” turns us loose, I’ve got plenty of time. So….

  1. …”and if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also..”. I agree with you that this is the most Christian of all admonitions, and it informs Valjean’s life after that priest he stole from pursued him to give him the rest of the silver! I’ve seen Les Miserables on stage twice, the movie once—it is a great, great piece of theater!!

    1. I once heard someone refer to Hamilton as “Ham.” I am not making this up! I admit to enjoy using nicknames (it’s a sign of affection in my family) but I’d prefer not to use one with a FF!

    1. “Poetic license”,ST?😜.
Hey you’re probably the only guy I’ll ever be able to ask this: What is it with wanting a virgin? Just “boldly going where no man”,etc? Is there a unique sensation in breaking the hymen? If not why wouldn’t you prefer someone who wasn’t gonna bleed on the sheets?

      1. Oh My Lord, girlfriend! And I thought ET asked the hard questions. Where to begin? I think the attraction of a virgin is that she is submitting herself completely to you. On the other hand, you had better be damn sure that she is Miss Right and not just Miss Right Now.

Of course making love to a virgin is unique in the feel as well, but I think for normal and healthy men it is desirable because she has chosen you to give her gift and with that also comes a unique and awesome responsibility to her.

      1. Oh, no, I just realized: my Lol comment didn’t nest the way I thought it would and wanted it to. The Lol was meant to be a response to your comment about never wanting to see a musical: it nested all wrong, sorry about that!

      2. I totally agree with you that sleeping with a virgin is a tremendous responsibility, and I would never make light of that: I would never Lol that 😦

Although we may be geographically separated, Hyp and I subconsciously act like a team so you better watch out! 🙂
