According to the 1951 Geneva convention a refugee is a person displaced by a well founded fear of persecution due to their religious, political or ethnic affiliation. By this definition migrants fleeing war zones are not eligible to be admitted into the US under the Refugee Act of 1980. Yet According to the State Department, more than one million Muslims have been settled in the US under the Refugee Resettlement Admissions program.
It gets worse, although there is supposed to be some sort of jobs program for these “refugees,” 90% of Middle Eastern refugees use food stamps (15% for native-born Americans [NBA]), 47% use cash assistance programs (5% NBA), and 75% use Medicaid. Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation claims that just the 10,000 refugees from Syria that Obama imported in fiscal year 2016 will cost US taxpayers over $6.5 billion during the course of those refugees’ lifetimes. Better still, refugees who come here at the age of 65 or older immediately qualify for Social Security benefits, having never contributed a single penny into the program.
The refugee program of course fast tracks these immigrants with Green Cards, which allow them to become citizens and bring in even more family members where they feast freely off of Aunt Samantha’s teat. Currently almost a quarter-million immigrants from Middle Eastern or North African countries slip into the US every year, about half of those hold freshly minted Green Cards.
Meanwhile back at the ranch, somehow the Middle Eastern Christians being systematically and gruesomely slaughtered do not qualify to be refugees and their plight is ignored by our State Department and the UN (which has a heavy hand in choosing which refugees come to the US). At the turn of the 20th century as much as 20% of the Middle East was made up of Christians. Today that number may not even reach 5%. Iraq had around 2 million Christians under Saddam Hussein — today less than 150,000. So while Middle Eastern Christians are being exterminated, the Trojan Horse is being filled with non-refugees as defined by the Refugee Act of 1980 to aid and abet Islamic supremacists to conduct their hijra.
Somebody please stop this madness before I go mad.
On the other hand, lovely weather.
I agree with every word! Sheee-ut, even after 9/11 we didn’t stop the influx. For some reason, rather the reverse, until Trump. Mosques proliferated. We’re like dodo birds, don’t recognize an enemy, just waddle right up to ‘em to get our heads coshed in.
Would you call this an irony, or what? Women have no status nor power in Islamic societies.
But the Islamists who want to take us over put women out front! Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib…Americans are duped by that, it’s like a double whammy: they’re women, and they’re women who are bucking their own cultural stereotype and restrictions. In Saudi Arabia they could never run for office, make speeches, sass back at men, ANY man! ( And if the Islamists take over, that’s where American women will be sitting too!):
I’ve probably told you this before, but I would rather see the Stars ‘n’ Stripes burned and stomped on than see it used as a hijab, a symbol of female oppression.

..but I went off your topic. The people you’re describing don’t qualify as-asylum seekers OR refugees.
(And yes, beautiful day here today, too!)

Nope, first time.

Well, I would. Because American dodos are too naive to realize that using our flag graphic as a hijab 🧕 (wow, that emoji just popped up!) does NOT mean “I want to be free like you”—it means”I am coming to take your freedom”.
I have always wanted to order a bunch of those famous posters with the woman in the flag hijab to use as targets on our shooting range.

I have not yet seen that poster and am in no rush to do so. From ancient memory, I believe the US flag by law or tradition is not supposed to be used as pattern for clothes. If memory servers and we still have a nation with borders, language and culture (h/t M. Savage), I would start enforcing it against this hijab nonsense.

Look up “Shepard Fairey Muslim poster” . (Same artist who did Hussein Omega’s “hope” poster.). I
HATE that smug lookin’ bitch!

No, you see the stars & stripes graphic on all kindsa clothing. And I love that, it’s great. The flag is a symbol, and whatever you do to it, from saluting it to burning it, is “symbolic speech” protected by 1st Amendment, IMHO. So :
I don’t want to see the flag desecrated in any way, it’s just, in my opinion, using the graphic on a hijab is THE most offensive thing anybody can do with it.

You can use the design *elements* of the flag in clothing, but not *a flag*, or portions thereof…P.S. Now, one can’t display the the Stars and Bars, on any Marine installation, anywhere…It’s classed as “divisive”, for the love of Chesty.

Maybe it was a US Marine Corps custom or policy? I cannot remember. Speaking of free speech, I have seen a couple of article now about the police looking for idiots who wore KKK hoods as masks. Why would the police be interested in them? Is hate speech illegal?

Flag Etiquette and the U.S. Flag Code
Quick list of Flag Etiquette Don’ts:
Don’t dip the U.S. Flag for any person, flag, or vessel.
Don’t let the flag touch the ground.
Don’t fly flag upside down unless there is an emergency.
Don’t carry the flag flat, or carry things in it.
Don’t use the flag as clothing.
Don’t store the flag where it can get dirty.
Don’t use it as a cover.
Don’t fasten it or tie it back. Always allow it to fall free.
Don’t draw on, or otherwise mark the flag.
Don’t use the flag for decoration. Use bunting with the blue on top, then white, then red.
From: https://www.military.com/flag-day/flag-ettiquette-dos-and-donts.html
I am thinking the Marine Corps has a guideline that recommends Marines do not use ‘flag art’ as clothing. Maybe that is what I was remembering. Anyway, I will keep looking for that but meantime I found this which sort of supports my recollection.

Which was pretty much the point of my OP. I am down on my knees begging America to wake-up but it seems she would rather accuse me of being a sex trafficker and go on talking about the weather.

Will do, Hypatia, but only after I visit my friend in the hospital. I don’t want to already be in a bad mood when I go to ‘lift her up.’

You raise me up to walk on stormy seas!
I am strong when I am on your shoulders-

Your words made me think of that song..I love it so…maybe one of the other ‘Ettes has the nous to post it for us!

This post was thought provoking in that it made me question the concept of asylum seeking in the first place. For years we allowed Cuban refugees in (remember Elián González?) no questions asked because of Castro. Please tell me then why we shouldn’t let in every refugee from Syria, Iran and the House of Saud whose rulers are possibly worse than Fidel. It’s a policy that can easily be taken advantage of and is.
Lest all the libs forget, it was their beloved FDR who turned back ships of Jewish refugees during WWII who certainly faced instant death upon arrival in their homeland. (Ok, confession- that was a personal exception I would have easily made.)
In any case, we can no longer absorb the victims of tyrants and despots. We need, instead, to save our resources to build our military ( particularly the technology) and intelligence agencies to defend ourselves from the world.

I would be happy with just a damn fine pair of boot for our grunts. I am not kidding, damn it to hell!
What kind of technology, Liz? Not trying to put you out on a limb, just curious na
Out intel community needs to be burned to a charred crisp and/ or ashes same-same the Phoenix. Let Gen Flynn be in charge of re-creating it in his own image.

You guys deal with an enormous amount of high tech weapons such as drones, missiles, M1 Abrams tanks, communication devices, etc. Even your binoculars are sophisticated! I was looking at all the equipment my heartthrob Cooper was using in American Sniper and it was more than impressive. I can’t imagine the length of time it must take to master any of this.
