“Indescribable, something you will either love or despise…Your breath will smell as if you’d been French-kissing your dead grandmother.”
Anthony Bourdain
He was talking about durian, a locally grown fruit that is banned in hotels in Thailand as well as on Singapore’s mass transit system as well as other public places due to its pungent odor. I just ate it with rice for breakfast. Once you get passed the smell…
I give you, ladies and gents, the king of fruit: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/durian-fruit
Oh, a perfect chinkbug food; you’ll need PPE to be near it – and people will stay 6 feet (or more) away from you after you’ve eaten it. ST, do people actually *eat* this ‘delicacy’? If so, how, may I ask?

How long it took you to try durian/get accustomed to eating it. (I know Marine life can require adventurous and inventive food choices.) lol

Thais absolutely crave the stuff. I suspect it is an acquired taste. The smell lingers for hours.

Here is a better article on the king of fruit. Anybody want to guess what the Thais call the queen of fruit?

P. S. I know that Marines “live off the land”, and can take in almost everything, so I’m not surprised that you’ve eaten it. How long did it take to get accustomed to it?

Please wager a guess based on my early comment about durian being an acquired taste.

Kimchi definitely belongs at #2 on the list! Got into a small elevator once in Seoul with six businessmen happily smacking away at this hideous stuff and came close to fainting. 🙂
