Double Header QotD: George Orwell

Freedom is the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.
George Orwell, THE ROAD TO WIGAN PIER 1937

If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.
[George Orwell, 1903-50. ‘The Freedom of the Press’, proposed preface to Animal Farm]

  1. It’s too late. People like us here are wearing hats and T-shirt’s that say “Make Orwell fiction again!” If that’s supposed to be a joke, it has been overtaken by events. F’rinstance, there’s a long scene in ,I think, 1984 where the por protagonist is browbeaten into saying 2+2 does NOT = 4 if the state says otherwise. Yeah, crazy, right? But I read a long piece on American Thinker yesterday about how woke math teachers maintain it is racist, it’s “white” to insist that 2+2=4.
A little over 3 decades behind the calendar,, but 1984 is upon us.
