North Star

There is but one immutable guiding light.

Forever fixed in the heavens – it does not, cannot rise or set.

The North Star is the pilgrims guide to knowledge.

Follow your beacon without fear through good and bad.

If you remain steadfast and humble in seeking wisdom,

she will lead to peace, love, meaning, purpose,

and eventually, when you are prepared to embrace her, eternal Truth.

  1. “Follow your beacon without fear through good and bad.”

The above line resonates with me. I find it inspiring and encouraging. The entire poem gives me hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

      1. Like rescuing sex slaves, defending a nation, maintaining a blog that is entertaining yet cutting edge and raw, feeding orphans, saving deserving starfish, comforting (youngish) widows, and (for some) graduating from uni.

  2. I would be most interested in knowing Simon’s beacon but I get a sense that it is acting with honor in service of his country.

My beacon still shines brightly from my late father who I worshiped. He taught all the right lessons: honesty, respect for the individual, ambition and taking responsibility for one’s actions.

    NO EXCUSES!

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FAIR! (I used to hate that one as a kid.)

    I still hear him speak.

  3. β€œThy voice is on the rolling air/I hear thee where the waters run, /Thou standest in the setting sun/And in the rising thou art fair….Far off thou art, but ever nigh/I have thee still, and I rejoice/ I prosper, circled with thy voice/I shall not lose thee though I die.”

What Liz said above reminded me of these lines from β€œIn Memoriam” by Tennyson which I recited at my father’s funeral.

    1. β€œLove took up the harp of Life, and smote on it with all his might,
Smote the chord of SELF, that, trembling, passed in music out of sight.”

(Tennyson again, nit sure which poem..)
