When I was in Scotland, I met a guy who had spent time in Thailand and ended up marrying a Thai girl whom he brought back to Scotland. He was talking about visiting America, and somehow the subject turned to Architecture. I explained to him that compared with Scotland and Thailand, American architecture probably wouldn’t be much to write home about. He looked at me and basically said, “If there is no architecture in America then why would I want to go there?” Lol, he was totally serious. He was not being a snob at all. He was a plumber and a very cool guy, he was the opposite of a snob. But he was just very much into architecture and not interested in going to a place where there wasn’t any. π
I love the relative lack of architecture in America. I think it is part of America’s charm π
