Netflix chose Stroudsburg Pa (among other towns, I imagine) to decorate for Christmas! So, one block, between 6th and 7th streets, is canopied with rows of icicle lights, the trees are covered with tiny LEDs, and there are of course red neon signs wishing all comers (you guessed it) Happy Holidays.
Perhaps the main theme is: snowmen! Although these statues, lurking all over town, are recognizable as such only because of their shape, a big ball topped by a smaller one topped by an even smaller one. They’re metal balls, of course, painted all kindsa colours, some look like robots—in fact they all do really. One is dressed as a Scots bagpiper! One, puzzlingly, is standing beside a car in an arcaded parking lot, peering in, as if it forgot its car keys or maybe is planning to break the window.
There are ornate brackets on the street lamps with a big red N . When I saw the first one I thought it might be for North, like North Pole, but of course it’s for Netflix.
At this point I’d ordinarily recommend, if anybody reading this lives in or near NEPA, that you visit Stroudsburg for the wine bars on Main Street, but thanks to Poofter and the Wolf, I reckon that’s not an option. I mean, you can buy their wines, but you can’t sit and snack and sip.
As I said, the Netflix-bedecked area is small, not worth making a special trip, but if you’re in the area one of these early-dark afternoons, you might enjoy a drive-through!
Why am I telling you this? Just cuz I’m lonely and I want to talk!
Dear Reader, I wish you a happy day!
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas.
P.S. He is the reason for the season.

Dearest Hypatia, I wanted to comment earlier, but was running out the door and then got caught up with my Mother. Even now, I am still not in a good position to chat, but will be around later on tonight. 🙂

Hello, Hyp! Your ‘dystopian’ description hits it right on the head. I empathize heartily. But, your words brought forward Frank Capra’s “Pottersville” (in “It’s a Wonderful Life”) at Christmas. I chuckled a bit, because this vision of the Season shall also pass….As ST says: He is the Reason for the Season. Which, of course, lasts longer than those desecrations – oops, I meant decorations, will. Btw, those snowmen deserve better. 🙂 Hugs!
