Democracy Dies in Darkness

…and fascism is born in darkness. That’s what we’ve been seeing all summer and what we’re seeing now: governmentally condoned violence being perpetrated under cover of darkness. In Antifa’s world, it’s always nighttime. The fires show up better that way. It’s always “the darkling plain/Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight.” It’s easier to frighten everybody that way.

As Repressive governments have done in the past, the Leftist officials tolerate and excuse these rampages, as long as it serves the government’s purposes. Fascism means nothing can happen which the state does not will. Voila!

And by contrast, to the extent that the tiny group which entered the Capitol on Jan 6 was comprised of people on the Right, I am proud that they acted in broad daylight. They did not destroy the private property of their fellow citizens. They broke one or two windows in buildings they, themselves, own. Cuz,y’know, it’s the People’s House and all.

Lies, lies, and more lies. This morning I looked up some of our former conservative sites. And although I’m not on Twitter, I checked out the accounts of a few known Trump supporters. It’s like looking at a house from which the inhabitants have just been forcibly evicted. Pale spots on the walls where posters and pictures have been ripped down.

Give us the strength and courage to resist. We are SEEING democracy dying in the darkness of these western cities, every night. We need more speech, more assembly, in the Capitol, in the sunlight, if we are to resuscitate it.
