This reminds me of a Hollywood actress-I can’t remember which one-who visited Cuba and was talking about what a great place Cuba is. She said that the people in Cuba were humble. As opposed, apparently, to Americans, who were not humble enough for the movie star’s liking.
Ever since then, I have wondered. What does it mean when an entitled brat of Hollywood admires people for being humble? What does it mean when she admires a communist regime for creating “humble” people? I wish I could remember her name. She was a monster, and yes, this picture is exactly what equality of outcome means. America’s ruling class hates middle America, and they want to destroy us. We aren’t humble enough for them.
No, Hypatia, it is not. This is the home of a Thai couple living right behind a beachfront 5 star resort. The dichotomy was so very striking that I snapped the photo.
Actually the hovel on the coffee plantation, where an undocumented couple from Burma are living, is 100x more humble. I posted a photo of it about one month ago.
This is why I used to hate visiting the Caribbean: natives living in huts of cement blocks and corrugated tin or plastic, next to luxurious, expensive tourist resorts with every amenity. Kinda depressing, makes you feel so guilty. I mean, the incongruity prevents you from appreciating the luxury.
Makes me feel so blessed to have been born in the greatest nation in the history of mankind. I try to give back into the local community wherever I may find myself with additional and generous (obvs.) contributions to many a Co-Ed’s college fund.
The insurmountable problem with all third world nations is that none have been blessed with our Founding Fathers. I shudder to think where we’d be now if not for them. Hopefully, we’ll wake up sooner rather than later and start to appreciate our heritage.
I read somewhere recently that something like +70% of US citizens over the age of 50 think the Founding Fathers were honorable. Unfortunately something like 80% of US citizens under the age of 30 think they were despicable and hypocrites. As per French philosopher, Auguste Comte, “demography is destiny.”
I am about to abandon hope all ye who enter here.
P.S. I actually had that quote on my desk for one year when I was still in uniform. Long story; Longer year.
It is quite unbelievable; you’d think slavery was just abolished last week, and everybody is only now finding out how awful it was, proposing all kinds of crazy suicidal schemes to “atone” , as if we haven’t been doing that ever since 1863.
Also the Left is acting like there was some cover up about it. Who does not know Washington.and Jefferson owned slaves? This isn’t news. We used to see it as all the more remarkable that they created the great blueprint for freedom, in spite of the fact that they were born into-and stuck with the plantation system created by our former colonial overlords.
Oh and BTW: the Founding Fathers were not immigrants, not a one. They were all born here. Yes even Hamilton who was born on a British colonial island .
If reparations are going to be paid, I know how to do it. I keep telling everybody and putting it out wherever I can: give black people a break for a certain period of time from all the “regressive’ taxes like sales tax, transfer tax, property tax, etc. which everybody pays no matter how much money they’re making. Brilliant?
“Unfortunately something like 80% of US citizens under the age of 30 think they were despicable and hypocrites.”
They were and are being taught that the Founders were nothing but slave owners and oppressive to women who were not allowed to vote or own property if married. What drives me WILD is when so-called “historians” judge the past based upon the morays of today. History progresses and so did we. White male commoners who were not members of the peerage were permitted to vote and own property.
That was one great “leap for MANkind.” Oops… I meant “huMANity. Oops again … I meant citizenry. 🙂
Speechless, ST, just speechless….. Thanks for keeping us humble and grateful.

That actress used the wrong word. “Humble” has nothing to do with being “oppressed.”

ST, can you tell us what we’re looking at here? Is this the home of the people you’re working with on your coffee project?

My very favorite American was born in Nevis but sent to America by his biological father who recognized his potential. 🙂

No ma’am, someone has provided you with incorrect information. I was actually born in Missouri, the “Show Me” state.
