Tiger Woods made an interesting comment about him once. He considered Mickelson to have the greatest natural talent for the game more so than even Nicklaus or Palmer but thought he didn’t work hard enough and needed to lose 50 lbs!
I did notice today he had lost weight and I guess his work ethic improved! Of course it probably didn’t hurt having “the greatest” out of the game for good. 😦
Yea but Liz, Tiger shortened his own career by over-training and playing through injuries that needed RICE instead. (RICE: rest, ice, compression, elevation; ask me anything, I am considered by the DOD to be an expert in self, buddy, and first aid)
True indeed. He incurred some serious injuries to his back.
P.S. Remember when he won his last Masters not too long after serious surgery and had to kneel down for a moment between holes because of the pain? He certainly could have played longer but that was a hell of a way to go out!
Longevity is not always optimal. Being the very best for however short a time is. 🙂
“The Greatest “ doesn’t have rheumatoid arthritis, or a commitment to family and a life outside of golf, Liz. (A little self-knowledge and self-discipline would’ve made that phenom into a true champion and role model.)
Tiger had plenty of life outside his work- his wife and two kids plus the 100 mistresses. Rheumatoid arthritis doesn’t even compare to the pain of four back surgeries.
He was one of the toughest competitors in sports and it isn’t a coincidence that his closest friend is Michael Jordan
I don’t judge him on his personal foibles but I surely do admire his will to win.
P.S. Why do people always diss winners? The most hated people in sports are Tom Brady and anyone who has played for the Yankees.
He may’ve won in his chosen career, but the debris left in his wake saddens me. I’m not at all ‘dissing’ his proficiency, I’m just sorry for the price he seems to have been willing to pay for it….Different lenses, I guess.
Phil Mickelson is the first 50+ year old to win a major championship.

D’Nanda, Jesus Christ Himself would have been tempted had a new Swedish bikini team been waiting (uninvited) for Him in His hotel lobby every night.
