LOL π When they were enrolling me in first grade in Catholic School, the Sisters wanted to know what our ethnic heritage was. My Dad wrote down that we were American. The Sisters didn’t want to accept that, and kept pressing the issue, but my Dad held firm, and just kept telling them that we were American. He was probably getting pissed (not like him at all, but he did get pissed sometimes) and I think my Mom was a little upset because she didn’t like the idea of disagreeing with the Nuns. One of the Sisters took her aside, and said “Don’t worry, we know that your children are Irish, it’s ok.” LOL, I don’t think my Mom ever told my Dad about that part of it. He would have hit the roof.
I was copying you, Simon, when I did the Irish-American thing. If I get to heaven and my Dad is mad at me over this, I will blame it on you π
My CG caught me playing pool in the officers’ club once or twice upon a time and remarked for all to hear, “Yet more evidence of a misspent youth.” I was either one of his Regimental Commanders or IG at the time.
He used to jokingly mock two (not one but yes two of my uncles) of his three brothers-in-law telling them his war was already forgotten.
History may repeat itself. Who now remembers Persian Gulf I? We didn’t even get our own soundtrack it was over so fast.

My previous comment is in reference to you posting a photograph of your Dad. It’s an awesome idea, and one I intend to copy.

You mentioned Korea and Persian Gulf I as βforgotten warsβ, I was just agreeing with you about that.

He never hyphenated, but I do this merely in the spirit of wokeism. I think he might understand.

I’ll tell a little story here on my dad. He did not take a lot of lip off of anyone.

My youngest uncle broke horses for coin before he was drafted. Normally gentle he went ballistic on horse that bit him. High times!

I was only 16 or 17 so he did all the work as far as the opposition party was concerned.
