Terms and Expressions that I Despise

Ok, I’m an English major and will always react as one so had to list my least favorite abuses of our language:

1. Woke.
2. Xenophobia.
3. Sexism, gender discrimination.
4. People of color. (This one oddly bothers me the most perhaps because I am an ex-retailer and understand that white is on the color wheel.)
5. Hyphenated- Americans. I am of Scottish-English descent and would never refer to myself as a British-American. Why is that acceptable with other ethnic groups?
6. Gender neutral/fluidity. Honestly, I’m lost here. I have three docs in my immediate family who refer to chromosomes… period.
7. Nationalism. Is this supposed to be a bad thing? I don’t live in pre-WWII Germany, so…
8. White privilege. No such thing! 90% of the wealth in this country is earned.
