This 70s Show

The 70s were the Dems good Ol’ days.

First: Watergate! They got to excoriate the hated Nixon who had just won re-election in a landslide. They COULD NOT LOSE in 1976. Not even with Candidate Malaise. we’re still dealing with the legacy of that, as all Dems and RINOS aspire to bask in the nationwide adulation accorded to the racist segregationist Sam Ervin, defender of Jim Crow 1.0. But who cared? He was sticking’ it to the President!
Rampant urban crime!
Oil crises! Heating oil and gas lines! !
Military debacles: Saigon, the failed rescue attempt for the Iran hostage incident.

That’s where Ol’ Jo[k]e feels at home .

I mean, what are our pols gonna say to get bipartisan applause, if not, “End our dependence on foreign oil!” ? When Trump actually DID that, nobody had anything to say.

Biden is Carter 2.0.

  1. All snark aside, I am very afraid about the 210,000 illegals let across the border in July alone and shipped on buses and even planes (at tax-payer expense) to various cities across the U.S. 40% of them are infected not only with the original Covid virus but with the new Delta variant.

Folks, Americans are going to die and this was all instigated by our Commander-in-Chief. This is truly beyond the pale and I can’t sleep at night. Texas is getting the big hit right now but apparently, 16,000 were shipped to Florida.

I’m having a problem understanding this desire by liberals to kill Americans; this goes far beyond high tax and spend policies …

I would welcome any analysis here.

  2. Be glad the motivation for this is incomprehensible to you, Liz; the only ‘analysis’ relevant here (and I mean this) is psychoanalysis. There’s no rational, e.g. “cost-benefit” calculation here. It’s self-loathing overlaid with long-dormant xenophobia. With a dash of brazen political calculation added, just for the heck of it. Where’s Dr. Krauthammer when we need him?!

  3. “Protect our people first, last and always.”

Absolutely so, Liz, fervently so! Which is why I described the current administration’s actions as crazy, calculated, and in no sense rational – based in self-loathing and contempt for others – especially those who view the country differently than they do.

    1. I’m impressed you have a handle on it because nothing makes sense to me. Why the loathing? The contempt?

We can all identify the problem but I want to know WHY.

      1. Just my thoughts, Liz, but the loathing and contempt *may* have something to do with never having been expected to earn/achieve – for everyone – regardless of race. Either because your upbringing was such that you didn’t, necessarily, have to; or, because others thought you were incapable of doing so (usually with no factual basis).. If we all have an experience of striving for something, no matter what that is, we have common ground/common cause with one another.

The other piece of this seems to be a lack of a transcendent reference point, whether it’s patriotism or piety. Both can balance out the pitfalls in an emphasis fixed solely on material well-being. (Just as attention to the material keeps one from becoming, as they used to say: “Too heavenly-minded to be any earthly good”. We’re made for mutuality, we’re made for relationship. If we don’t have it, we can become heart-sick. Self-loathing and contempt for others are symptoms of this – dare I say it? – “malevolent malaise”. That’s where I am with it, so far….Thanks for the chance to formulate this!
