Haiti Has No Home Here

2010. Disastrous earthquake in Haiti. Billions of dollars given by generous Americans.

I thought it should have been more than enough money to restore the Haitians to the conditions under which they had been living, which was in huts made of cement blocks and green corrugated plastic roofing. Really that couldn’t have been too difficult.
But thanks to the expertise of people like the Clinton Foundation, evidently it was neither easy nor cheap. Nor was it even affordable, apparently, despite the infusion of charitable dollars.

And now here we are again. Another earthquake which mysteriously seems to have devastated Haiti but not the Dominican Republic.

Haiti will accept no help from the country Dominican Republic, with which they share the island of Hispaniola. Not even an offer to help ensure fresh water.

I am waiting, just outta curiosity, to see whether anyone even mentions the charitable debacles of 11 years ago. Chelsea Clinton wiring to her parents about the Clinton Foundation: “Mom, Dad, it isn’t working..”

That was an understatement. In fact, it was rescue workers who brought in the cholera ,remember?

I can’t stand to watch this movie again.

  1. Here’s a question: Where is the 22 billion dollar Gates Foundation? As for the Clintons, that foundation paid for Chelsea’s 3 million dollar wedding and that’s about it.

    1. Right. It’s not that people won’t give. They will.they do. But to whom? There are ways you can actually give money, and like even ten dollars could make a big difference, directly to a stricken family. I read a great book called “When Helping Hurts” on this subject.

  2. You said a mouthful, Hyp….I guess Haiti hates itself – to refuse help from nearest neighbors. Isn’t that how this is supposed to work?!

    1. Ditto, tes. When we contributed after 9/11 we definitely did not go through the Red Cross! We found a validated nonprofit charitable institution where every cent went to the victims’ families.

      1. Before any donation, I want to know two things: How much does the CEO make, and what percentage meets the intended target. If they are a registered charity, this information is online.

    2. It IS a dead cause. There’s really only one good thing you could do for any Haitians: get them OFF that shithole island! Well no as I said, it really isnt the island’s fault. : I’ve read that when you fly over it, you can see where the DR ends and Haiti begins.
My father, a physician and philanthropist, used to say, “Some people are very difficult to help.” Tru dat—and that’s Haiti on a national scale.

Agree, but pls don’t suggest getting them off that island! Joe Biden would be more than happy to send them all to my state.
