Even though I initially refused to post on 9/11 because of my anger with the current administration, I decided I wanted to share something special about New Yorkers.
I lived in the financial district and my subway stop was Tower 1. If I hadn’t moved one year previously to Florida on September 5, 2000 my husband and I would have been unable to get back home for months leaving my cat to starve to death.
So, on 9/13/ 01 I spoke to a good friend who used her vacation days to volunteer her time at the site passing out food and water to FDNY and NYPD personnel. I immediately made a plane reservation to fly up to help but she called me later to tell me not to bother.
Why?
There was a “waiting list” of 3,000 New Yorkers who were desperate to contribute not only their blood (which was unfortunately not needed) but their time as well at the site contributing in any way that they could.
I still get choked up when I think about this and will forever defend my “Yawkers” because as I wrote in an editorial for my local newspaper:
“If the jihadists wanted to destroy the spirit of America, they chose the wrong damn city.”
Thanks. That is really inspiring. Remember my favorite moment in the 2016 debates when Cruz disparaged “New York values” and Trump spoke up about New Yorkers’,9/11 response? Best EVER!!

I despised Ted Cruz for that comment. 9/11 aside, I was mugged once in my hood and had my purse ripped off my shoulder.
TWELVE people went after the perp, recovered my handbag and called the police who, btw, showed up in 3 minutes.

Amen, Liz! I wish we could still say: “They picked the wrong dang country!” Keep on keeping on, my friend!

Thank you Nanda, but I’m still waiting for you to use a curse word. Hypatia and I feel lonely. 🙂
