The mail just arrived and I discovered my husband had ordered me three hardbacks:
- Wealth, Poverty and Politics by Thomas Sowell
- Charter Schools and Their Enemies by Thomas Sowell
- Great Society by Amity Shlaes
Husbands who understand and appreciate their spouse’s interests are truly special. Last Christmas, one of my gifts was a plethora of books about the Beatles including a special biography on Macca. And best of all, they were surprises!
I count my blessings and appreciate my good taste in men. 🙂

I have read 3 of Thomas Sowell’s books and his insights are impressive. His story is truly a rags to riches tale with a lot of hard work in between. Excellent reading choices!

I agree about Sowell most wholeheartedly. I now own six of his books but I worry that he’s apparently in bad health and in his eighties.
Speaking of Hoover Institution scholars, you’d love Shelby Steele as well. It was published all the way back in 2006 but White Guilt is a must read; I once wrote an entire post on page 66 of that book!

When you asked for. “A good ‘Un about BMD”. I thought, there’s no way I can pick just ONE! But then I remembered an incident rom this summer.
I bike three times a week during June-September, about a 9 mile round trip. It’s a goal I set for myself, and I’m kinda…OCD about it. So a month or so ago, I was tootling along and — THUNK-pssst: a flat tire.
I called him and said, could you come get me on Brady’s Road?
He did—with HIS bike on the back of our car! He said, I knew you’d be upset if you didn’t get to finish your ride.
He was so right, I had been pacing back and forth on the road fretting about whether I might not be able to get my third bike ride in that week!
So SILLY, but…I gotta be me! And this shows how perfectly he “gets” me!
