Social Shaming

It’s gotten a bad rap. I am not encouraging the bullying of overweight kids in school or counterproductive infractions such as that, but last night I was eating dinner at a fairly nice restaurant and in comes a kid wearing a swastika tattoo on his forehead and joins us at the bar. As mentioned previously, I have experienced the shock of five niqabs seated next to me at a restaurant in Naples, FL!!

Y’all know this story already so I won’t repeat.

My point is that both of these ‘symbols’ offend me highly and are not dissimilar in the violent, discriminatory, barbaric culture they represent. I do not condone law enforcement intervention here however because clothing or ‘decorative’ choices are not federal or state crimes. They are social crimes.

Sigh… So true to nature, I settled my bar tab while loudly expressing to my husband, “I thought this was a nice place.” Now, I believe it is not the responsibility of taxpayers to regulate this with legal restrictions but with social shunning. There is too little of that in our culture- anything goes! other than a MAGA tee- and our police and law enforcement officials do not need to be burdened with this.

We, as a society, have to bear this burden as individuals. I do and will continue to make lunatics feel uncomfortable in decent society.
