Of course š Well, maybe, lol š I have always found all this alpha, beta, omega, etc…male stuff very confusing, and after watching this video, I am even more confused. According to the video, sigma males are what I had thought alpha males were, and alpha males are total jerks. According to the video, beta males are wimps, alpha males are jerks, but sigma males are wonderful in every way. Not sure that I buy into that š
I will say, however, that both my Dad and Robin sound like sigma males, as defined by the video, and so do you, Simon, in that, all three of you are wonderful in every way. But like I said, I am more confused after having watched the video. š
Thinking about it, though, the video may have a point. I have known a few “alpha males” who had strong personalities and surrounded themselves with male followers who were insecure. I never liked those guys. According to the video, sigma males have all of the positive traits of alphas, but sigma males do not depend on a following of betas to secure their position.Sigma males are lone wolves. And when I think about it, all of the men I have really liked have been lone wolves: I never had any interest in so called “alphas” who depend on male groupies. That never appealed to me.
So, there probably is some truth to the video. I still remain skeptical of labeling people, but the video probably does contain some truth.
The main reason I have never liked the whole alpha male/beta male thing is because from what I can tell, it based on evolutionary psychology. From what I can tell, evolutionary psychologists claim to understand human beings because they study monkeys. I am not on board with that. Human beings are not monkeys, and I am very skeptical of people who claim to understand human nature based on their study of animals.
I have seen evolutionary psychology drive some men to the point of despair. One guy was talking about how with some species of lions or tigers-I can’t remember which- the “alpha” would massacre the father of a lion family, and would also massacre all the little cubs. Then, the mother, after having witnessed her children being killed, would start to ovulate and would eagerly mate with the “alpha” that just killed her entire family. This poor man swallowed hook, line and sinker the idea that human females would act the same way in the same situation.
I don’t like evolutionary psychology. It strikes me as mostly bullshit with some grains of truth mixed in: all good lies are based on a grain of truth. And, it has the effect of dehumanizing and denigrating human beings.
Iām also reminded of a golden oldie campus frat barbershop quartet song, āThe Sweetheart of Sigma Chiā, that keeps us in classic ST territory. š¼
I have no idea what this post is about š so I googled it, and found this:

Wonderful pic to illustrate this video; agree with JaC re: labeling, though, pigeonholing is sorta lazy. (Said the recovered psychologist.) š¼

These kinds of tools are useful for self-understanding, but they can become a source of limits, just sayinā.
