  1. Thomas Sowell is brilliant. Thank you for this, Simon.

My parents were married in the summer of 1967-the same summer as the Detroit riots. They went on a road trip for their honeymoon, and somehow, I have no idea how, they ended up lost in some bad area of Detroit. My Dad was just driving around, trying to find his way out, and then a black gentleman drove up beside him, pulled down his window, and said to my Dad, “Are you trying to get out of here?” “I sure am.” my Dad replied. The black gentleman told my Dad to follow him, and he led my parents to the nearest highway.

In the video Simon posted, Thomas Sowell points out that blacks in Detroit were doing better than whites nationally, before the riots. So much destruction, and for what? Such a tragedy.
