HE MUST be Sick…

Fourteen years ago, a man, whose life had been completely unremarkable up to that point, took all the children at the Nickel Mines Amish one-room school house hostage. Tortured them. And shot them, one by one, then himself.

The aftermath reminds me of what is happening now regarding Putin. An autopsy was done on the killer, everyone was hoping for a brain tumor or some other pathology. but the Sheriff came out and wearily and reluctantly announced that the man was perfectly healthy. ”We couldnt find anything.” he said, regretfully.

This reminds me of what people are beginning to say about Putin right now.. Surely he must be sick? He doesnt look well! He’s behaving erratically, he’s angry, he’s isolated!

We wish.

That would be easier to accept than the simple stark fact that the world has got another Napoleon, another Hitler, on its hands.

Those guys werent ”crazy”, they were…..determined, and, unlike the majority (thank God!) of humans, they had no empathy for the suffering of other humans. You gotta be that way, if you wanna change the world forever. Which both of those men did.

And so will Vlad the Imploder.

  1. Putin has already been analyzed as a psychopath with severe paranoiac delusions as were Hitler and Stalin. Nonetheless, I’m starting to come to the conclusion that there simply can’t be so many mentally disturbed people in this world- see Mao, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, anyone running the Congo, Escobar, etc. etc. The list is endless yet Mother Nature is a fairly rational force in this world so I have changed my secular mind.

I now believe in pure, unmitigated evil and that it is the rule, not the exception. This is why you never hear me disparaging religious forces that try to rein in these destructive impulses. My family was certainly opiniated on the subject of the Protestant Work Ethic and the ten commandments (particularly #6-10) as were our Founders even though several were Deists.

    1. I believe Jordan Peterson defines evil as arrogance and resentment. He goes on to say that the evil about evil is how voluntary and unnecessary it is.

I’ll see if I can find the link.

  2. Putin is an amateur. The only reason he is scary is because he is in charge of a huge army, and nukes, but his kind of evil is pretty straightforward.

The evil that really amazes me is the kind being exhibited by companies like Apple. They use slave labor in China, they say nothing about the genocide of the Uyghurs, one guy from some big company actually bragged publicly that he DGAF about the Uyghurs, but they are all jumping on the Ukraine bandwagon, to show how much they care. I’m all for caring about Ukraine, but these CEOs have never given a damn about anyone, and even now, their compassion is strictly limited to Ukrainians. They care about Ukrainians, or so they say, and they DGAF about anyone else. I don’t know which is scarier: the evil of companies like Apple, or the stupidity of some Americans who buy into it all.

Putin scares me, but not nearly as much as evil people in our own country.

    1. Putin is an amateur in that he doesn’t perceive his image- around the globe or within his own military.

Great story today: Zelenskyy dodged an assassination due to a tip from a Russian soldier!

  3. I’m reading David Badiel’s book. “Jews Don’t Count”. Reading my comment above, if I had written, “he’s a Jew!” it would sound kinda ambiguous as to my laudatory intent. “Jew” is the only ethnic identifier which is IN ITSELF a slur. (-ish is only added when the speaker wants to show it isnt meant that way.)
    Why?
If Badiel reveals why in his book, I’ll let you know.
