Three Things; Yea, Four ( or: Why I Love Proverbs)

“There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, Is is enough:

The grave: and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water: and the fire that saith not, It is enough….

There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:

The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock;the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.”

—Proverbs 30: 15-19

    1. Y’know what, I don’t think that would be ..so mystifying. I read some piece by a gay guy once and he said heterosexual partners are always wondering, how does he or she— the other— really feel? But a homosexual lover knows.

    1. I noticed that too. But to a lay person, the idea that anybody can ever even keep sailing in a straight line once you’re outta sight of land IS mystifying.

      1. You’re right, there are so many other things he coulda mentioned.
But I love the poetry of these verses.
And I think Proverbs is almost the only place in the Bible that we get any practical advice on quotidian life.

  1. My personal fave as well as my go to Bible verse in times of confusion and need.

    Proverbs 16
    King James Version

3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
