“There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, Is is enough:
The grave: and the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water: and the fire that saith not, It is enough….
There be three things which are too wonderful for me, yea, four which I know not:
The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock;the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.”
—Proverbs 30: 15-19
Why not the way of a man with another man?

Y’know what, I don’t think that would be ..so mystifying. I read some piece by a gay guy once and he said heterosexual partners are always wondering, how does he or she— the other— really feel? But a homosexual lover knows.

Precisely, the Bible (believe it or not) is not stupid.

“The Old Testament was UnWoke, if you ask me.”
Good for it, too.

I try to read the entire book of Proverbs every month. February is the only really difficult month for me to accomplish that goal.

Because have to read 28-31 on February 28th. Leap Years are more chill.

No probs dude. February was my one month if sobriety, back in the day. It was a good and reasonable question.

“the way of a ship in the midst of the sea;”
This one does not “look” like the other ones to me. It has always baffled me.

I noticed that too. But to a lay person, the idea that anybody can ever even keep sailing in a straight line once you’re outta sight of land IS mystifying.

Maybe because I am both a Marine and an open ocean sailor makes that one line seem incongruous.

You’re right, there are so many other things he coulda mentioned.
But I love the poetry of these verses.
And I think Proverbs is almost the only place in the Bible that we get any practical advice on quotidian life.

When all else fails, let Proverbs be your guide.
Except for the 31st which never fails to get feminists quite riled up.

Maybe, no matter how good you are at helmsmanship, the sea has her ways and wiles that can confound/confuse, yes?

My personal fave as well as my go to Bible verse in times of confusion and need.
Proverbs 16
King James Version
3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established.
