The 9th Circuit has dismissed Stormy Daniels’ meritless defamation suit agains Trump and awarded him 300K in counsel fees.
Its a shame he can’t do what Mr. Pickwick does in Dickens’ The Pickwick Papers.
Have you ever read it? you should, its a laffriot! And IMHO the funniest part is the trial of Mrs. Bardell’s breach of promise suit. Jovial Mr. Pickwick had once remarked to her, his landlord at the time:”I daresay two can live as cheaply as one.” From that, she concocted a promise to marry her.
The trial scene is one of the funniest things i have ever read (although not as funny as the deposition transcripts in William Gaddis’ A Frolic of His Own. Read that!)
Mrs Bardell wins, getting a money judgment against Pickwick. He goes to debtor’s prison rather than pay it, although he could afford to do so.
But then, guess who ELSE shows up in the Marshalsea? Mrs Bardell! Since Pickwick wont pay her, she cant pay her lawyers, so they have her put in debtor’s prison!
The matter is settled by Mr. Pickwick gallantly paying her legal fees as a humanitarian gesture, to get her released.
i read that Stormy tweeted she would “go to jail before she would pay Trump a penny!” Welp, we dont have debtor’s prisons in our country (oh except for overdue child support) so that wont happen.
Could he take the royalties from her book, Full Disclosure, published by St. Martin’s Press (???) in 2018? i dont know, my guess is it isnt generating much. I tnink that’s because it is about her, mos’ly, a “memoir”, rather than about Trump. BO-ring! she doesn’t seem to have realized that her connection with Trump is the sole episode which could possibly interest the public.
So maybe Trump could/ should do the gallant, humanitarian thing, and forgive the wretched woman’s debt to him? Doesnt sound like he’ll ever be able to collect, anyway .
Nah. He’d get no credit with his enemies for doing that, let’s face it. Nir could he expect any gratitude from her.
Public service announcement: This was one of those suits where plaintiff accuses her mark of some kinda tort upon which the statute of limitations has run. Then the mark denies the allegation, and she sues him for defamation, for calling her a liar! i mean, what is the gent supposed to do.? He can neither admit nor deny without dire consequences to him!
We need ”privilege of verbal self-defense“.
You are so well read, Hypatia, and it is so delightful to read your thoughts on the great writers. I feel like I am a smarter person just from hanging around with you 🙂
