      1. Well, but it’s not really what you actually do. It’s what you could do if you wanted to. Robin was resented by a lot of men too. In particular, he was telling me about a group of men in a small town in Scotland where he lived who hated him with a passion. Young women in that town would throw themselves at Robin on a regular basis: he was always totally faithful to his one girlfriend, but that possibly just made some of the men hate him more. It isn’t what you actually do. It’s what you could do that other men could never do that will cause them to hate you.

      2. Yes, I have, on more than one occasion with more than one guy. There is nothing worse than men who are jealous of another man. Like a pack of hyenas. Very ugly, and unfortunately, a lot of women cannot see through it. The jealous men will start gossiping and slandering the man they are jealous of, and then they recruit scorned women and it’s just a very bad scene.

      3. Maybe because it’s Good Friday, this occurred to me today: the exact same thing happened to Jesus, only in His case, it was much worse than usual.

      6. No. Not in my experience. It probably happens, but then, how often is one guy going to start something with an angry mob? Not very often.

The men I have seen this happen to are all very strong individuals. They can stand on their own two feet. Men who need a pack around them notice this and are jealous of it, and then the pack turns against the individual.

      7. The men I have seen this happen to are also good looking, charming, and successful with women, and that also breeds jealousy, but I don’t think it’s the main reason. The main reason, from what I can tell, is that they are just stronger people, and some men see that and cannot stand it.

      8. I think so. I like it, and I think I am smart enough 🙂 But, there are women out there who just go along with the crowd, and if the crowd is telling them to hate a smart, independent, good looking, charming guy, they will. I have seen it. It’s unreal.

      9. They think for themselves. They are not afraid to diverge from the crowd and popular opinion. That isn’t the same thing as starting something-the ones I have known are exceedingly nice people, and they are virtually always very nice about the way they think for themselves and disagree with other people, but the fact that they do it at all is infuriating to some men.

      10. Yes. If you are one guy, and ten or twenty other guys, some of whom were supposedly your “friends” decide to take you down, they will succeed. This is when you will find out who your friends really are, and sadly, it will probably turn out that you don’t have very many.

I hate to say it, but in my experience, the Dude always loses if push comes to shove. If push really comes to shove, then you have to just leave and move on, either to a new social circle or to a new place.

The Good News is, push doesn’t always come to shove. Part of the reason Robin came to America is because he was in that kind of situation in Scotland, but he made wonderful friends in America. For whatever reason, most of the guys he became friends with in America appreciated and loved him, and they were a great comfort to him.

      11. I cannot imagine. Being stuck in any kind of all girls’ school has always been my worst nightmare. It is the main, overriding reason I dislike feminism. Spending every day of my life around other women is my idea of hell.

      12. I knew people in Alaska who were dyslexic, but for whatever reason the public school system in the 1970’s in Alaska was not good at diagnosing such things, so it was assumed that they were mentally handicapped. I knew a couple of people that this happened to: one of them is one of the independent thinking guys I have been talking about. He didn’t learn how to read until he figured it out on his own at the age of 12. He taught himself how to read. How does someone do that? No one knows, but he did.

It’s bad enough when something like that happens in your own language. To have it happen in a foreign language is beyond unbearable.

      13. Crabs in a bucket.

The best piece of advice/information my Dad or anyone ever gave me: the majority is not always right. Yes, we live in democratic republic, and yes, we must usually bow to the will of the majority, but don’t ever for one minute believe that the majority of people are always right. My Dad impressed that upon me all through my childhood, and I am so grateful for his wisdom.

    1. Not necessarily. Women do the same sort of thing, but often for somewhat different reasons. If a pack of women perceive that an individual woman is, for whatever reason, more attractive than they are, they may very well pull the same kind of stunt, and a lot of men will go along with it, even if the individual woman is very attractive. Men can be crowd followers too. But with women, it’s probably not because she is a stronger person: it’s probably because she is prettier or kinder or more feminine than they are.

      1. It’s awful, but Jesus told us that this would happen. He told us that if the world hates Him, the world will hate us too. God is working all things for our good.

      2. There were only 2 of them, and neither of them considered themselves Christian, but both of them were more Christian than most Christians.

      3. And, Jesus also said, “Forgive them, Father, for they know not what they do.” If Jesus could forgive what was done to Him, then, as someone who wants to follow Him, I must forgive what is done to me. I remind myself of that about a million times a day. I am not there yet, but I just keep trying.
