Your Cat Is Not Your Son

First, they called themselves “Dog Moms.” Then, they started referring to their pets as their “babies.” Several times now, while scrolling through Twitter, I have seen posts that start out saying, “My baby died last night…” and my heart jumps in my throat, thinking that a baby has died. Then it turns out that the writer was referring to a very old dog or cat. That was bad enough, but I just saw a commercial on tv where a woman says of her cat, “He is my son.”

This is insanity. Please make it stop.

  1. Is inter-speciesism gaining a toehold here? Lord, forbid! I’ve loved and lost several beloved pets through the years, but never a “furbaby”: Yikes! 🐼

    1. Me too! My dog saved my life after my cousin was murdered in 9/11. I totally get having an immense love for pets, but to refer to them as children? It’s just not right.
