Santiago is not safe as it was in the early 1980s. I had my Omega “Holy Grail” in my left front pocket and a group of pickpockets were able to relieve me of about $10.00 USD worth of fresh out of the ATM Chilean pesos. Their appeared to be at least 5 of them and this is how they got cash out of my pocket but not my expensive watch. I was in the metro having taken a short bus ride from the international airport
P.S. I hate it so much when an American who speaks only one language pronounces Chile as if he were speaking Spanish.

The first thing I noticed was that I was getting boxed in by a young family with their son in tow. I think they even had a rolling suitcase. Looked sweet and innocent enough or so I thought at first glance.
