..no, really, that’s all I want to say: scratch a farmer, please!
Our hand is in vacation, so I have to do his chores, which means throwing hay twice a day. It’s kinda a fun task, hay smells so good, I get to eyeball our horses every morning and evening so that I’d know if anybody was limping or had an eye hanging out, even on the days when we don’t ride. And it doesn’t take long.
But, I’ve always said: you have to dress for it. It’s not like you could just set a bowl of food down for your dog or cat at the last minute, after you’re already dressed to go out to dinner.
Hay gets in EVERYTHING.
And since I’m doing it regularly, I hafta tell you, when it does, it ITCHES like crazy!
Even after I change my clothes, I find tiny straws in my bra, under my collar, at the waist of my underpants.
Y’know that cliché image of the country bumpkin “hayseed”, with straw in his hair? C’est moi!
I find myself squirming all day, looking for an opportunity to relieve the itching without being socially inappropriate. I have a lotta fellow feeling for those pigs you see blissfully scratching their backs on the railing of their pen.
So, yeah: if you’re looking for a way to do a good deed today:
Scratch a farmer!
As one who often needs a helping hand, I empathize, dear Hyp….
