Caffeine Dream

I sometimes get a bit dozy after dinner, sitting reading in front of the fire….but tonight I remembered the perfect antidote! I promised Simon I would do a taste comparison of the three strengths of his coffee, efficiently packed in his now patented over -the- cup device! This is like a pod for a Keurig type machine, except you don’t need the machine, you just remove the plastic lid from the pod and pour boiling water through. And the pod can be refilled with coffee, and neatly re-sealed with the plastic top. Genius!
The pods come in 3 strengths, 15, 20 and 22 grams of caffeine. How can I do them justice?
Let’s say the 15g made me think of a diner scene painted by Edward Hopper. This was flavorful but not demanding coffee, perfect over-the-counter with a piece of cherry pie, or lemon meringue pie…..or maybe, if a fellow (or a gal) was down on his/her luck, just the coffee, ma’am, black. A reason to go on living. The coffee drinker would be restored, button up the trenchcoat and turn up the collar and get back out there, back in the game.

The 20g, a bit more insistent, a stronger, darker flavor. I’m thinkin’a truck stop after midnight. When you entered the bright oasis just the aroma would wake you up, you’d curl both hands around the steaming cup, who needed nicotine when you could inhale the delicious roasted coffee bean?

And the 22g? We hafta travel farther to do that justice! The wet gleaming streets of a city at daybreak. Thick white porcelain cups in a café in Paris, the mighty rushing noise of an espresso machine in Rome….the very soul of coffee!

After my caffeine adventure, I’m now thoroughly awake, in fact I wonder whether I’ll be sleepy by bedtime! But it’s worth it! Simon’s coffee is delicious in all strengths. Thank you Simon for sending it to us, and I’m sure the pod design will be a huge success. Congratulations!
