This was supposed to be a post about women in combat, but while searching around on Google, I got distracted by a photograph of two strikingly beautiful little girls, and was led to a site that explained their story. Long story short, they are twin sisters who started modeling at age 7. They are 9 years old now, and their parents are promoting them aggressively. The site where they were featured assures us that their mother always makes sure that everything is totally safe, and that it’s all good.
I can’t be the only one who is a little uncomfortable with this. Hollywood is littered with child stars who ended up crashing and burning as adults, but I am thinking that the prospects of child actors, bleak though they often are, are probably a lot brighter than the prospects of most child models. Acting at least involves some skill that will carry over into adulthood, and that can be applied to all kinds of jobs outside of Hollywood. It’s a pretty sure bet that a kid who is a talented actor will grow into an adult who is a talented actor, but there is no guarantee that a beautiful child will go on to become a beautiful adult. I have known children who were so gorgeous it was blinding, and they grow into very average looking adults-and there are also some pretty weird looking kids who become gorgeous adults. Of course, there are some lucky people who are just beautiful all the way through, but that cannot be counted on.
We know what happens to child actors in too many cases. Basing a child’s entire identity on being a good actor is highly dubious, but it’s preferable to basing a child’s entire identity on being good looking. I fear for these children.
For certain, JaC. The Wisdom writers remind us that “charm is deceptive, and beauty fleeting”. Hoping these young ladies have someone in their lives – other than their vicariously functional parents – who’ll help keep their young heads on straight.

I prefer my child models to be 18, sometimes even 19 years old.

At what age is a (female) child no longer a child?

18
I am almost 50, so to me, anybody under age 30 is a child, but not really. I think 18 is a good number.

I read about those exact twins recently as well Judy. I’d allow it but not at the sake of their schoolwork and would monitor every shoot. I would then take their earnings, put them aside for college, tell them they have to go to college and then they can do what they want!
Kids can handle extracurricular activities and school at the same time if they work at it. Athletes do it all the time.

Yep. I am often shocked at how naive are many girls in their twenties, but pretty. Many seem to be more child than woman, but sexy.

It is better that way. If it were possible to put the mind of an older woman in the body of a younger woman, men would be toast 🙂

Even older ‘gentlemen,’ I suspect.

Lol, what are you worried about? We are talking about a hypothetical situation and a hypothetical woman who never has and never will exist. Chill, dude, you will be fine 🙂

Besides, you are not an older gentleman yet 🙂

Do not *ever+ use that word, even in jest, hermano. You are a gentleman first, last, and always – and helping the rest of us be patient with the passage of time.

As long as ideations do not become actions, hermanita, I will use the word.

Claro, hermanito, comprendo; just a momentary frisson; thanks for understanding…..
P.S. Expressing ideations is wisdom; it either gets them past one’s heart and mind, or it allows others to be available as support, if desired, yes?

P.S. Apparently one of the female rockstars on L! has accused me of being no such thing and needing to be court-martialed or something for impersonating both an Officer and a Gentleman within the same very human person’s soul.

Pshaw, and pish tosh, for good measure, to that person’s ‘or something’….
