Technological Evil

Recently, I went out and bought an Amazon firestick, thinking that it would lower my monthly bills. It sounds like a good deal, until you realize that by bringing this device into your home, you are also bringing Alexa into your home. Which I refuse to do. Apparently, Roku won’t work without Alexa either, so it looks like I will be sticking with cable.

I fully realize that my laptop and cell phone are probably already spying on me: for sure, both devices are giving somebody far more information about me than I would like them to have. Simon often says that Americans are too stupid to live. In some cases, that is true, but I often feel overwhelmed by all of the issues that confront us. We are bombarded from every direction with horrible ideas. It’s like the hydra: you cut one head off, and seven others grow back.

Anyway, Alexa is not coming into my home. My tv was bought sometime around 2014 or 2015. As far as I know, it isn’t a smart tv. I will hold onto this old, not smart tv for as long as I can. We ought to be rebelling against these invasions of our privacy.

  1. Almost immediately after posting this, I received a message on my phone notifying me that my phone can tell me if I have been exposed to Covid.
