A Poet on Climate Alarmism

“…We may doubt the just proportion of good to ill.

There is much in nature against us. But we forget

Take nature altogether since Time began,

Including human nature, in peace and war,

And it must be a little in favor of man,

Say a fraction of one percent at the very least,

Or our number living wouldn’t be steadily more,

Our hold on the planet wouldn’t have so increased.”

(From Our Hold On The Planet, by Robert Frost)

Frost died in 1963 so he couldn’t have imagined the orgy of species self-hatred we’re indulging now. But take the loooong view: he’s right! Although Mother Gaia was a bit of a a toxic parent, surrounding us with all kindsa predators gigantic and microscopic in the plains and jungles of Africa whence we emerged, somehow we did survive. We were fruitful and multiplied and prospered. We humans are creatures of this planet after all, just like the plants and animals so belovéd of the green-freaks. We got no advantages, no special treatment: it was the original “level playing field” ( well, mountainous and crevassed rather than level, but you know what I mean). And we kept apace with the rest of Gaia’s critters, we even subjugated most of them—we WON!
Like Frost, I can’t help thinking spiteful, cruel, glorious Ol’ Mother Nature must be reeeeel proud of us!
