The chubby well-dressed (check out their blindingly white sneakers!) people streaming across our southern border are never going to qualify for asylum even if they do show up for a hearing. The definition of an asylum seeker is that you have to have been persecuted, or have a well-founded fear of persecution, because of you political opinion, your religious affiliation, your race, or membership in a particular social class. These bozos do not check ANY o’ them boxes. As we hear ad nauseum, they “just want a better life”, meaning more money.
Y’know who does meet the definition of “asylum seeker”?
Any Cubans who want to flee Communism, that’s who!
And yet, they have been told NOT TO COME, do NOT get into a leaky boat and head for Florida, you WILL NOT be permitted to stay.

Regarding Simon’s commentary on Venezuela, I don’t see those refugees assimilating as well into American culture as our neighbors off the coast of Florida. That has been THE # 1 priority for me; what can you do for my country?

Agreed about a new wave of freedom seeking Cubans immigrating to our shores. I worked with a couple or three Cuban-American US Marines in the riverine counterdrug arena and they were solid to a man.

Here is my two cents: After the non-renewal of the “dry foot policy” in 2017 as a result of the Obama Administrations relaxing of travel restrictions, the left realized that Cubans were a HUGE voting block of conservatives, so now they want them gone (or do not come at all), but the rest of Central American immigrants will vote (legally or illegally) Democratic. So there you have it in plane English.

You nailed it! One concern that I have is that the second and third generation of Cuban-American citizens are veering left. This is precisely why I want to welcome a new wave who still understands how it feels to live like a slave.
