Piece of Advice

… to women in the corporate world. Stop complaining about harassment and focus on the bottom line.

I had a highly profitable job responsibility in my younger years and exceeded margin goals every time.

Of course there was some harassment but I had the power because I made the company a lot of money and frankly, nobody wanted to mess with the rainmaker.

As abhorrent as harassment is, women can fix the problem.

  1. True dat, Liz! Where did all this “I’m a victim.” come from? Especially re: verbal comments that used to be considered compliments (appearance, etc.) Good grief!

    1. I’m happy to get this comment because I’m feeling somewhat blue today.

My Senior Vice-President in my first job died this day five yrs ago and I can only think of how he developed and taught me every damned thing I ever learned about business. Two great stories in respect to my SVP JS:

      1. I made a huge buy that did not work out and his response? “Don’t let this preclude you from taking risks. At least your markdowns will be more meaningful.” Who says this ?

      2. Breakfast meeting in Hong Kong to review my buys, except he was more upset about an harassment issue I had dealt with the day before. I was young, naive and appalled so I had ignored it completely because I was worried about my image. JS of course had heard about this and commented, “He’s a dead man. Nobody messes with my people.”

      I miss him. A lot.

  2. White, suburban women have to do more to right this ship. Once we decided that certain ‘intersections’ feelz trump other (intersectional) peoples feelz, it became an act of self-sacrifice to not make one’s tribe a perpetual victim of “the (evil, white) man.”

    1. That’s a whole other post! I agree because as mothers, they of all people should be horrified by Biden’s welcome to hundreds of thousands of illegals, a third of whom are Covid infected. Anyone worried about their families here?
