Consider the claim that the Afghan National Army was a sham, really a source of American military career advancement and defense contractor enrichment. The ANA melting away, and the Taliban’s lightning victory, supports this narrative. 

Wish I believed in the concept of Hell because the author of this remark is headed there.

  1. The sorrow I feel is for the women and girls. The first thing the Taliban did was to burn down the schools for girls. Then they went house to house and raped the families of Afghan soldiers who were being taught to defend their county. Christians were rooted out and killed. Women who refused to wear a body covering were killed in front of their families. This didn’t have to happen, and would not have happened if President Trump were in office.

    1. I agree; in many cultures, women are only as safe as the men who rule the country.

      Where are American feminists now? Worried about LGBTQ issues? NOW has influence and money and could help instead of annoying the rest of us.

      1. I used to be a feminist, when it was about equal pay for equal work and when there really was a “glass ceiling.” Now, the word “feminist” means absolutely nothing. It’s hard to expect any help from people who have no idea what they’re doing.

  2. Timely post, Liz; the hypocrisy is strong over that way. Listening to All Marine Radio on Friday, Mac and battle buddies – in Afghanistan at least twice – reminded listeners that the ANA and police have lost 70,000 people in this ‘long war’.

    Where are the ‘feminists’ on a whole host of issues – this one being front-and-center?

    1. Great question Nanda but I don’t think it’s too complicated to answer. President Trump called up the PR manager of the Taliban (don’t you just love that?) and said bluntly, “You break a single aspect of our negotiations or kill one American and you won’t know what will hit you. We know where you live.”

      This a direct quote from Mark Levin so I take it as the truth plus it is so gloriously Trumpian!

      Biden and Harris are doing an excellent job encouraging that but I am very concerned that the GOP is failing to go for the jugular.

Liz, The current incarnation of the Repulsivecant Party (not all of its individual members/currently-serving members) is an irrelevance….It’s past its expiration date; it wouldn’t know the jugular vein from a jongleur, methinks. We’re beyond/past “party”. Put faith in individual candidates; don’t look to the “Grand Old Party”.

      2. Agree! Love Jim Jordan, Mark Meadows, Rick Scott, even Lindsey Graham (for now), et.al but we do not have the power of a united party. The GOP suffers from an enormous split between RINOs and conservatives.

        Can’t win an election this way.

        As an aside, I am dreadfully disappointed in Rubio, Romney, Portman. Trump has been so right on so many issues and these men failed to support his policies i.e. our best interests.

      3. As I’m not affiliated anymore, this isn’t my fight, but the RINO epithet was part of what started my exodus from party-based political involvement….I don’t like ‘purity tests’. As I may’ve mentioned before, R’s and a fair share of conservatives are flawless at stating problems – and often woefully short on solutions. It’s really aggravating and disappointing at times. So much so that following the internecine battles wore me out. (Enough from me, for a while.)

      4. National defense is a fight coming for you whether you want it or not. The all volunteer military is another mistake that needs to get fixed faster than quickly.

      5. Agree entirely, ST; just not involved with the partisan back and forth. All-volunteer is definitely a tough one. They’re fighting, and the rest of us are at the mall. We have no ‘investment’ in any of our policy decisions. Bad news….

  9. I agree with the general I saw on Mark Levin on Sunday. Biden shouldn’t be impeached. He’s the commander in chief of all our armed forces—and he should be court martialled.

    1. Hyp, you bring out the Machiavellian aspect of my personality! If Biden goes and the equally incompetent Harris becomes president and the House Speaker Pelosi openly supports them both, we have the opportunity to destroy the Democrat party!

      Wish the GOP leadership could figure this out. I am a “non-elite” and even I understand all the possibilities.

    1. Constitutional republic all the way, ST, though it’s morphed into a top-down, managerial behemoth the Framers wouldn’t recognize. One good thing about the Flu Manchu might be that it reawakened Federalism, and let people experience freedom vs. constraint in thought/speech/governance.
