  1. I think I remember yours, or one of them, anyway. You got it while marching through the jungle or woods with the Marines, when a tree branch hit your eye. You were lucky it didn’t end your career. Am I remembering correctly?

      1. The branch had been coiled back by the jarhead in front of me (0n/by his backpack and/or rifle is my guess) and when it released hit me square in the eye with force. It was predawn, pitch black, raining cats & dogs so I never saw it coming.

  2. I have never had a corneal abrasion, but I did sunburn my corneas, or some part of my eyes, when I was a teenager. My vision was warpy for a day or so, but for some reason I didn’t tell anyone and it just went away on its own. I read later somewhere that the symptoms I experienced were due to over exposure to the sun, which makes sense, because I had just returned from the beach.

  3. Yes. I did it trying to fold an (applied-for) absentee ballot and wrestle it into the first of the required double envelopes. A corner of the thing slid under my glasses and said hello to my right cornea. Headache that nauseated me, wearing prescription sunglasses to work for about 3 days, and grateful for the anesthetic eye drops, too. (it’s happened twice since, errant eyelash scrapes, not nearly as dramatic.)
