John Madden

John Madden

Legendary NFL coach and broadcaster dies at 85.

R.I.P.

Even after he retired from both these jobs, his opinion still counted to many of us. To quote my husband last night as we heard the news, “Oh s**t.”

  1. I was watching the Liberty Bowl last night when I heard the news. It’s hard to imagine football without him. BTW, Texas Tech won! In the words of John Madden: “Boom!”

    1. That was the famous Holy Roller game. I love the part when the announcer says: “Madden asks if it’s real. The ref says ‘it is, get your big butt outta here!’ He does!”

      1. Dammit! The NFL took down your video. The Steinbrenners did the same to me when I put up a post on Jeter’s greatest plays at shortstop.

      1. Not a lot of guys get drafted by the Eagles.

My parents often golfed in local tournaments with Miami safety Charlie Babb’s (49) parents. Dad said Charlie would hit an oak tree at full speed. Dude was absolutely fearless.

  3. A little off-topic but since it’s my post, I’m taking privilege.

I was watching my favorite player and probably the best to ever play at any position, Lawrence Taylor speak about Madden last night. Although Parcells handled a high-strung and troubled player incredibly well, Taylor had this to say about JM:

“I did listen to his commentary after a game and it made an impact. He made me a better player.”

    (Pause for some tears here.)
