Don’t they realize it? Well, no, they don’t, because they don’t read so they don’t know literature and history.

They may think these ideas about “equity” are rad and new. They may think hatred of the wealthy, nay, of wealth itself, is new. But it’s not.

Nobody should own anything except what they, personally need to provide themselves with the necessities of life. And, well, he was moderate compared to his 19th century heir, “Property is theft” Proudhon.
Famously, the French aristocrats totally lionized Rousseau, they found it a delicious frisson to have him at their salons , preaching their annihilation. Which did transpire, in the blood-soaked square where the guillotine stood in Paris and other French cities, in the rivers through France clogged with sodden bodies.

See, being a “conservative” means you have noticed the good things about the status quo, and you dare to suggest we might wanna keep most of it.
