  2. This was the Sunday gospel reading for me; our pastor reminded us that there is a history that Jesus draws on here. Prophets in Israel had been routinely beaten nearly to death, starved, or killed outright to keep God’s word from being delivered and fulfilled – especially if it involves repentance or judgment. After this reading in the synagogue, Jesus’ friends and relatives rise up to hurl him off the cliff on which Nazareth was built. Coming home isn’t always going to mean a warm welcome. Even if you are the bearer/embodiment of good news. The prophet’s mission is harder the closer it gets to home. Even Jesus moved on….
